Start by Jon Acuff Book Image

Punch fear in the face.
Escape average.
Do work that matters
.

Those are just the statements from the cover of the book. And Jon packs the book full of hundreds more that will be memorable and motivating. Grab a pad of sticky notes – you will need them!

I picked up this copy of Start, by Jon Acuff, a few months ago, and just got around to reading it this past week. Wish I would have read it sooner.

Jon has an amazing way of taking a potentially tough subject, and simplifying it into language that everyone can connect with and pull from. And better yet, be motivated by.

In this book, Jon breaks down the necessary steps everyone must take to move from Average to Awesome. A path that many aspire to, yet few do. Ever wonder why? Jon knows.

While it seems easy, in thought, it takes work. Hustle. Motivation. Passion. Most people don’t push through.

Jon shares a ton of wisdom on how to make that push and to keep going. He also breaks some powerful misconceptions that have been around for decades about the journey to awesome.

If you are looking to escape the average and begin your journey to awesome, pick up this book. You won’t regret it.

Book Review: Thirst by Scott Harrison

Thirst by Scott Harrison Book ImageI have followed charity: water for the last ten years – pretty closely in 2008-2010 during my years in college. I was always intrigued by the way that charity: water did things, even back then.

I had the privilege of attending a smaller, private Christian college, and charity work/non-profits was a common discussion. Through that time, though, I learned the ‘normal’ way that charities worked.

It was during this time, that I met charity: water – and I knew something was different.

For different reasons, I became disconnected from them since around 2011. Life happened.

When Scott Harrison’s book, Thirst, came out, I knew I wanted to read it. And I am so glad that I did.

Scott has a way of telling stories that will keep you intrigued and engrossed in the book until you complete it. He is authentic. He told it as it was – and how it all actually happened over the last 12 years.

Thirst has powerful stories of the journey of charity: water and the impact they are making around the world.

Scott, and charity: water, are amazing examples of how God can use everyone to strike at poverty and sin in this world, and make an incredible difference.

Thank you, Scott, for this book. Thank you for sharing the details, the ups, the downs, the struggles, and the wins of the journey with us.

And, thank you for being ‘different’ with charity: water and changing the landscape of charity work.

I highly recommend grabbing a copy. Click here to buy the book.

Book Review: Where The Colors Blend by Stephen Copeland

Where the Colors Blend by Stephen Copeland Book ImageIf you want to be encouraged, challenged, motivated, and inspired, this is the book for you. Stephen is an authentic and raw author. He told the story of his journey in a powerful and emotional way.

Not only did his writing style keep me hooked from the beginning, but it allowed me to truly connect with Stephen.

As a fellow believer, Stephen touched on subjects, feelings, and emotions that most, if not all, Christians experience at some point in their journey. Certainly things that I have struggled with.

However, this book was a powerful reminder that God has a plan for each of us. We may not feel like he does, and less likely do we have any idea what it is. But he does. And, he will use people and circumstances around you to show you that plan.

I would highly recommend grabbing a copy of this book today! You will not regret it.

Book Review: Runaway Millionaire by Dave Schools

Runaway Millionaire by Dave SchoolsI sat down this weekend and read Runaway Millionaire, by Dave Schools. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and get to know Dave some over the last couple months, and I was excited at the chance to grab a copy of his recent book and dive in.

Dave is a powerful writer, and that was strongly evident in this book.

This fictional story of a country boy who desired life in the city, ventured to the city where he was met with both success and failure, is a capturing story. I could hardly put the book down.

Many times throughout the story, I would feel personally connected with the main character, Nathan. Many other times, I would cringe at the mistake I could see him making before he even made it.

Such is life. We all experience ups and downs. We all create our own future based on the decisions we make today. This book brought those realizations back to the forefront of my mind.

Lastly, this book is a solid reminder of the value of life – and what is most important in life – love and family.

Like all good books, this left me wanting more at the end.

Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of Dave’s book, Runaway Millionaire, today. You can get a copy of it here.

The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon [book review]

The Energy Bus by Jon GordonThe Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy by Jon Gordon is one of my favorite books right now. This book shares a fictional story woven with practical, real-life principles we each should integrate into our lives.

Life is not easy. There are bumps and bruises along the way. But how we handle those makes an incredible impact on our day to day lives.

Positive energy is real. And so is negative energy. We drive our own life every day, and the energy we reflect is the energy that drives our bus.

This book is an amazing book. It will change your thinking if you let it. It is a short and easy read.

I highly encourage you to grab your copy today!

Check out other books I have read recently over at my Book Club page.
