Always Push Yourself

The other day, while on my run, I had a mental battle. I wanted to stop, but I know I needed to keep going. I needed to push myself to go further than I had the day before. This way, it would be easier the next day, and in return, I could push myself even further again.

After this, I began to think back over the past few months at the different scenarios where I pushed myself to do something, and in return, I grew from it.

Things like, working out, trying a project at work that was outside my experience zone, and replacing a part on my car that I had not done before by myself. All of these items pushed me outside my comfort zone. BUT, in return, I grew from it. I learned new things. I improved my physical and mental capacities.

It is important to continually push yourself. If something makes you nervous, that is not bad. In fact, you need those items.

Always keep learning. Always keep pushing yourself to take risks, to learn new things, and to go outside of your comfort zone.

The reward on the other side is amazing.

Don’t waste a second by staying stagnant. Life is too short.

The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon [book review]

The Energy Bus by Jon GordonThe Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy by Jon Gordon is one of my favorite books right now. This book shares a fictional story woven with practical, real-life principles we each should integrate into our lives.

Life is not easy. There are bumps and bruises along the way. But how we handle those makes an incredible impact on our day to day lives.

Positive energy is real. And so is negative energy. We drive our own life every day, and the energy we reflect is the energy that drives our bus.

This book is an amazing book. It will change your thinking if you let it. It is a short and easy read.

I highly encourage you to grab your copy today!

Check out other books I have read recently over at my Book Club page.

The Importance of Goals

“A goal is a dream with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill

A new year is upon us, and for a lot of people, this means New Year’s resolutions. However, many people do not make it past week two with their resolutions.

The reason for this, in my opinion, is that people do not properly set/prepare for their goals.

I learned many years ago the importance of dreams and goals.

Dreams give you things to look forward to. Things to move towards in life. Things to accomplish in life.

Goals help you reach those dreams.

Napolean said it well when he said, “A goal is a dream with a deadline.” And for most dreams, there are many goals that have to be accomplished to reach your dream.

People often think of goals in 12 month periods of time – such as New Year’s resolutions. This is where I have learned to rethink goals.

Yes, long-term goals are important. However, I highly recommend setting shorter goals as well. This is why I set monthly goals that help me reach my yearly goals and dreams.

I set yearly goals to help me ensure I am reaching my dreams – but I need to take monthly steps to get there.

Yearly goals can also feel overwhelming – which can cause people to give up or even forget. Monthly goals break it down into more manageable steps.

I also encourage you to write down your goals. Get them down in front of you, and put them someplace where you will see them often. I am personally motivated when I review my goals every Monday morning. It helps me stay focused on what truly matters each week.

How about you – do you set goals?
