I know it sounds harsh, but there are simply people in this world who should be fired. They are not a good fit for your team. Some people bring team morale and production down simply by being present. Their negative attitude or habit of bulldozing others in the group is only hurting your bottom line. As a manager, it is your responsibility to take care of your team, to consider their workplace environment, and to actually help manage relationships between them. Sometimes being a manager stinks because you have to do hard things, but you were hired because someone thought you were capable and trustworthy of doing this. So do it. Firing someone is never easy, especially if managers before you have failed to do what should have been done years ago, but be brave. Get into that power pose before the meeting and reassure yourself that you are doing what is best for your team and the overall company. You got this.
